Library stamp on rear of title page, both volumes and withdrawn stamp on top of contents page. Volume 2, some evidence of water staining to some pages. Occaisional spotting, mainly to prelims but overall a very nice copy of this rare title. George W. De Long was a naval officer and explorer, who is best remembered for his role as the leader of the Jeannette Expedition of the late 19th century. This expedition saw a U.S. ship seek to travel to the North Pole via the Bering Strait. This journey resulted in the death of many crew members, including De Long.
