Includes Kitchener's official dispatches appended and roll of all British ranks killed and wounded at Battle of Atbara, 8/4/1898. Contents clean, some minor spotting to prelims and page edges. Shelf wear, covers bumped, small piece missing from top of spine. Military account of the re-conquest of the Soudan in 1897-98, by an eye-witness to the Soudan campaign. Bennet Burleigh, was hired in 1881 by the London Telegraph to cover the war in Sudan. He was a correspondent for the Central News Agency during the bombardment of Alexandria in 1882 and was the first to report the failure of the Gordon relief expedition, which led to the slaughter of the Khartoum garrison. He also covered the Boer War and the Russo-Japanese War, writing several books on his conflict reporting experiences.
