    Description 1st Edition; x, 256 pages, 2 maps, no date, preface dated 1911. Original covers. Hinges splitting, front hinge neatly repaired. Contents clean, text block slight wrinkling but still solid, a nice copy of a delightful little book. Bruce led the 1902-04 Scottish National Antarctic (Scotia) Expedition. During this expedition Bruce's team built Omond House, the oldest, permanent Antarctic base still in use. Based on the author's personal experiences of travel to both polar regions between 1892 and 1909, and on his conversations with other polar explorers especially Sir Joseph Dalton Hooker who took part in the 1839-43 Antarctic voyage and to whom this book is dedicated.
