    Description 1st Edition, xv 464 pages 45 plates including photographic frontispiece, 61 photographs, 7 drawings, 110 illustrations in text , 7 maps, (1 coloured folding). Green cloth, gilt titling to spine, front covered lettered in yellow with vignette of Emperor penguin and chick. This is the first edition first issue without the author's preface pp.iii-iv. Shelfware, some fading to front cover, spine cover split and beginning to fray, bumping to corners. Contents clean. 'Taylor was a geologist on the 1910-12 expedition to the Antarctic which, despite the tragedy was of major scientific interest.' Spence 1183. An important and scarce primary account of Scott's last expedition, including many illustrations not included in Scott.
