Rosove 205: "Levick was a surgeon on Scott's Terra Nova expedition (1910-1913) and member of the six-man northern party. This book is a delightful volume in which Levick narrates not of the men's lives at Cape Adare but rather those of the Adelie penguins during the nesting season." The author was a British Antarctic explorer and naval surgeon. He accompanied Scott to Antarctica (1910-1913), having the role of surgeon and zoologist. He photographed extensively throughout the expedition. Levick formed part of the Northern Party and spent the summer of 1911 1912 at Cape Adare studying the Adelie penguin rookery, the largest Adelie penguin colony in the world .He was the first person to study a full breeding season of Adelie penguins. His ground breaking observations of the courting, mating, and chick-rearing behaviours of these birds are recorded in this remarkable book, accompanied with extraordinary photographs. Also included are short chapters on the McCormick' s Skua Gull and the Emperor penguin. Fascinating reading. Price £30.00 Keywords Scott, Terra Nova, expedition, polar, Cape Adare, qpolarq.
