    Description 1956 issue (2nd Impression of the 1938 with 31 photographs issue) xi, 284pages. Original covers in photocopied dust jacket for protection. Photocopy of 3 maps 'to illustrate Journeys of the Western Geological Parties' loosely laid in.Covers damp stained, some damp stains on some page edges. In 1938 the first illustrated edition, "With 31 photographs" with the now well-known selection of photographs by Ponting was published. There have been many re-issues. This 1956 edition contains 12 pictures, 3 of which are double page and no maps. The title page does not reflect the fewer photographs but the illustrations page does. We have laid in a COPY of the maps of an earlier addition for the benefit of you, the reader.
