    Description 1st English Translation; 1st UK Edition 1st printing. A very scarce first impression, which has no folding maps. The maps were not made in time for this issue, and therefore were only published with the second issue. xiii,15-265 pages, maps on endpapers, 45 tinted plates from photos, including frontispiece portrait. Original covers with gilt titling in photocopied dustjacket for protection. Translated by E. M. G. Jayne. Lars Christensen made and/or sponsored several voyages to the Antarctic 1927-3. While primarily for whaling & sealing, Christensen had a strong interest in exploration, and much good work was done, including several aerial surveys, photography & meteorology.
