Original green cloth, blind stamped colophon on both covers, gilt titling on front and spine. Shelfware, small marks to covers. Gift inscription dated 1932 to front end paper, minor spotting to page edges, contents clean. All illustrations and maps as called for.An interesting early history of the "Heroic Age" of exploration at the South Pole, starting at the beginning of the 20th Century up until the introduction of aviation. Hayes approached H. R. Mill to make the publication a joint effort but Mill declined, he did however encourage Hayes and in this introduction explains his reasons.
