Delivered in December 1864 at the town halls at Rusholme and Manchester, the lectures featured are titled 'Of Kings' Treasuries', 'Of Queens' Gardens' and 'The Mystery of Life and its Arts'. This book proved to be one of Ruskin's most popular, and was regularly awarded as a Sunday School prize. John Ruskin wrote on subjects as varied as geology, architecture, myth, ornithology, literature, education, botany and political economy.
