    Description 1st Edition: ix, 362 pages, illustrated, 16 b/w photographs, map end papers. Original covers in unclipped dust jacket. Previous owners neat dated signature on front end paper otherwise contents clean. Damp staining, slight water stain to bottom of dust jacket, front cover and pages but overall still a very nice copy. Part of the description of Peary's journey across the Arctic Ocean ice from February 28th to April 1st, 1909, appeared in an earlier book by the author, Race for the Pole (Heinemann, 1961). Some material from Peary's personal papers, not previously available, has been added to it here.
