Original covers in photocopied dust jacket. Shelf wear, Covers faded, rear pictorial end paper clipped and rear hinge splitting. Hurley was the photographer on the 'Endurance'. Spence 615. Hurley, an absolutely superb photographer, went South with both Shackleton and Mawson. Hurley raised expedition photography to a new level. He did not make routine photos of explorers posing in the snow. Instead, he often focused on the snow itself, or on grim snowscapes that became beautiful in his compositions.
