Red cloth, bevelled edges, triple gilt and single ruled black borders with gilt titles and vignette of an eskimo in kayak about to harpoon a large fish on front cover. dark green eps, Page edges gilt. This wonderful, large size book, attributed to Adams, features the fauna and flora of the tundra and arctic regions, living with the eskimos, hunting big game such as polar bear, and fishing in polar waters. There is also a lengthy chapter on the explorations of Parry, Kane, Franklin and other noted polar explorers. The author is also un-named in this edition but the first edition was 1876 and written by William Henry Davenport Adams. The enlarged edition was possibly not completed by him.
