    Description 1st Edition: viii, 351pp, [8pp publishers advertisements], illustrated, green monotone plates (including frontispiece portrait), b/w white illustrations in text, brown eps. Original green cloth with gilt titling and vignette of wolf on front cover, gilt titling, decoration on spine. AB 8185. Johansen was a member of Nansen's FRAM expedition - "so eager to take part in the expedition, as no other post could be found for him, he accepted that of stoker" - and his companion on the famous journey over the ice towards the north pole and then to Franz Josef Land. Johansen's account is considerablly scarcer than Nansen's best selling FARTHEST NORTH. Decorative presentation bookplate on front pastedown dated 1901, front cover slightly soiled, shelfware, bumping, contents clean. Very Good.
