Sponsored by New York merchant, Henry Grinnell, the expedition was mounted to search for Sir John Franklin's expedition along the shores of Barrow Straight and Viscount Melville Sound. They later became trapped in the ice and spent the winter drifting eastward our of Lancaster Sound and southward through Baffin Bay. Arctic Bibliography 8381.
