Title PETER THE WHALER: His Early Life and Adventures in the Arctic Regions.
Publishing Information Bristol: The Venturer Press. no date.
Description Undated copy; 246pp, illustrated, G.S.Ronald (illustrator), b/w illustrations, maps on end papers. Black cloth covers with gilt titling. An account of his family and early life, why he went to sea, etc. His first experience of Sea Life, description of a North American Emigrant Ship, his first introduction to ice.The Arctic scenes are perhaps the best in the book, and there is much practical knowledge of making and contriving to add realism to the chronicle of adventure. These features of Peter the Whaler were to be characteristic of many of the adventure stories which captured the imagination of Victorian youth. There are some nice illustrative etchings by Ronalds. Shelfware, slight wrinkling to top of spine, eps age toned, contents clean. Very Good.
